This paper is dedicated to Jansug Kordzaia, doctor of philology, professor, poet and thinker, whose commemorative evening was held on December 14, 2022 at the Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University. This recollection is based on the speech delivered there. Kordzaia’s outstanding personal and human qualities still remain unforgettable for his colleagues and students. A special place in the paper is given to Jansug Kordzaia’s lyrical collections: “You are already you” (1988), “This Century” (1988), “Just Once” (1989).
It is known that the expressiveness of the lyrics is determined by the intensity of the poet’s world outlook and feelings as well as the variety of themes. Scholars distinguish four main thematic groups of lyrics: philosophical, civil, landscape and love. Kordzaia’s collection “Selected Lyrics” comprises poems that cover each of the four thematic groups. The above-mentioned lyrical creation is a rare example of a mixture of philosophical and civic theme and serves to explain the cause-and-effect link. In Georgia, political repressions of the 1930s are perceived as the death of the world. The poem presents artistic images created by colorful hearing. The feelings of Jansug Kordzaia’s lyrical hero express go beyond melancholy or grief that is the prerogative of elegiac lyrics; in this short poem the poet’s lyrical feeling reaches the height of the tragedy and shares with us true catharsis.
It should be noted the emotional perception of sound, accompanied by a step, wind, leaves and rain: all four are dynamic, mobile, alive and exclude static, resisting death and sharing with the reader the movement of music, the world perceived by the conductor ... And “complete silence and stillness” is the “truth of the world”: only the concept is already motionless and constant, and the path to truth is always turbulent, dynamic and painful, only the truth obtained through such a tragic sacrifice is valuable and eternal.
